Your portfolio is managed here, not handed off.

Many advisory firms place client money with outside portfolio managers, and every layer adds a fee. Layered arrangements like that can run 2 to 3 percent a year or more. At Dempsey & Drumm, the advisors who know you manage the money: 25 to 30 stock portfolios and a set of ETF models, built and maintained in this office. Individual stocks in our portfolios carry no product fee. You pay one advisory fee, stated in your agreement before we begin.

Ed Dempsey has advised clients since 1986 and holds the CFP® designation. Christian Drumm learned the business from his father, an advisor from 1973 to 1995, and joined Ed in 2006 to form the firm. Matt Dempsey, Ed's son, came aboard in 2022. That makes a second generation of advisors on both sides of the name on the door, serving many families across generations of their own.

Common questions

Who actually manages my money?

We do. Dempsey & Drumm builds and maintains its own stock portfolios and ETF models rather than placing assets with outside third-party managers. The advisor you meet with is involved in managing the portfolio.

How are you paid?

Through an advisory fee on the assets we manage, on fee-based platforms through LPL Financial. The fee is stated in your agreement before we begin, and individual stocks in our portfolios do not add a separate product-level fee.

Is there an account minimum?

We do not publish one. The practice is deliberately small, about 175 client groups, and fit matters more to us than account size.

What does independent mean here?

The firm is owned by its advisors, not a bank or brokerage parent. Securities are offered through LPL Financial, Member FINRA/SIPC, and investment advice through Private Advisor Group, a registered investment advisor. LPL does not offer proprietary investment products, so nothing steers what we recommend.
